On Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 8:28 a.m. officers responded to a radio call to 2717 North 73rd Street to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to CUMC in critical condition, with life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing at this time, and no further information is available.

UPDATE 1-28-12 at 8:50 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Philip Burden, DOB: 11-8-85, of Omaha. He remains in critical condition at the hospital.

UPDATE 1-29-12 at 4:15 p.m.

The victim passed away early this afternoon.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Michael Sebesta with a date of birth of 02-24-84 for 1st Degree Felony Assault and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony/Gun. The warrant will be amended to reflect the fact that Philip Burden died as a result of the assault.

UPDATE 1/30/12 9:45 p.m.

 

The arrest warrant has been amended to 2nd Degree Murder, Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person (Felon).

Theft by Deception Larceny Fraud Parole Violation

Last week a suspect named Edward Mason visited the home of a 80 year old victim with the pretense of previously working on his roof within the last year.  The victim did have work done by a local company and let the suspect in to check on the roof.  The suspect told the victim that there was a hole in the roof along with a dead squirrel that had damaged insulation.

 

There was actually no damage and the suspect doesn’t work for any local roofing company.  The suspect told the victim he could fix the problem for $7,000.  The elderly victim felt overwhelmed and wrote a check to the suspect. 

 

The suspect left at 1 p.m., video surveillance at the bank catches the suspect cashing the check at 1:21 p.m.  All before the victim realized what had happened.

 

Detectives with the Omaha Police Major Crimes Unit have identified the suspect as Edward L. Mason Jr., DOB: 9-22-63.  It is believed that Mason is currently in Omaha, but that he has ties to surrounding states.  Mason is currently wanted in Omaha for felony theft by deception.  He is also wanted in Des Moines for two counts of larceny, Minneapolis for fraud and Davenport for a parole violation.

Protection Order Violation

Harris is a 25-year-old black male, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 175 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

On Tuesday, December 13, 2011 officers responded to the 1300 block of North 26th Street to investigate a protection order violation. The victim advised officers that she has a protection order against her ex-boyfriend, Jamar Harris. The protection order prohibits Harris from having contact with the victim, including over the phone. Harris had called and texted the victim several times, threatening to kill her or harm her.

A felony warrant has been issued for the arrest of Harris for Protection Order Violation. Harris has a history of protection order violations against this same victim. He also has a history of Obstructing Administration of the Law, and several misdemeanor crimes. Harris has not been convicted of weapons offenses, but he may own a firearm.

On Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 10:20 a.m. officers responded to a radio call in the 4938 South 24th Street, Plaza Latina Travel, to investigate a burglary. The owner of the business advised that he arrived at work and noticed that thousands of dollars in cash, and a camera were missing from the store. Neighboring businesses also reported having laptop computers stolen.

 

Investigators have determined that Luttmer is the suspect in these burglaries. A felon warrant has been issued for the arrest of Luttmer for burglary.

 

Luttmer has a history of disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, and various misdemeanor crimes.

Felony Flight to Avoid Arrest

On Friday, July 22, 2011 at 2:25 a.m. an officer initiated a traffic stop near 76th and Dodge Street. The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Jackson, and asked him to step out of the vehicle because Jackson smelled of an alcoholic beverage.

 

At this point, Jackson put the vehicle in gear and drove off at a high rate of speed. The officer later found the vehicle abandoned at 75th and Webster Street, where it had struck Hillside Elementary School, and started on fire. Jackson was not located.

 

A felony warrant has been issued for the arrest of Jackson for flight to avoid arrest and criminal mischief over $1,500.

 

Jackson has a history of DV assault, resisting arrest, DUI, obstructing administration of the law and felony assault (shooting).

Second Degree Assault on an Officer

On Thursday, February 10, 2011 an Omaha Police Officer made a traffic stop in the area of 129th and Maple Street. The officer approached the vehicle and made contact with the occupants.

 

While speaking with the driver, the vehicle began to roll backwards. The driver started the vehicle, and accelerated quickly forward. The officer’s hand became trapped in the open window of the vehicle. The officer yelled numerous times to the driver to stop, but he did not. The officer was able to free himself from the vehicle after being dragged approximately 15 feet. He was treated for cuts, scrapes, and a sprained hand.  

 

The vehicle fled the area. Two occupants ditched the vehicle in a nearby neighborhood. The remaining party in the vehicle was arrested. The investigation revealed that Santana-Rubio was the driver of the vehicle.

 

A felony warrant has been issued for the arrest of Santana-Rubio for Second Degree Assault on an Officer. Santana-Rubio has a history of assault and robbery.

On Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 8:03 a.m. officers responded to a radio call to the 5400 block of South 28th Street to investigate a robbery. The victim told officers that the suspect physically assaulted him, and threatened him with a hammer. The suspect took money from the victim and fled from the residence.

 

The investigation revealed that Williams is the suspect in the incident. The victim and suspect were acquaintances. Williams may also go by the names Bobby Holloway, and Coty Brooks.

 

A felony warrant has been issued for Williams for Robbery.

 

Detectives believe that Williams may be in Omaha or Missouri.

Conspiracy to Distribute/Possess Crack-Cocaine

On May 24, 2010 federal agents along with metro area officers federally indicted 8 persons, including Deandre Robinson, for conspiracy to distribute / possess crack – cocaine.
 
This was a result of an on-going narcotics investigation by the Greater Omaha Safe Streets Task Force that spanned over 6 months.
 
During this time, detectives observed and made numerous crack – cocaine purchases with all involved, including Edward Smith.
 
7 suspects were quickly apprehended, but to this date Smith is still at large. 
 
Detectives believe Smith is evading officers and is known to frequent north Omaha and the Benson area.  His nickname is “A-wack” and is known to use his middle name Allen as his last name.  He often grows a beard or mustache to change his appearance.
 
Smith is a convicted felon and is to be considered armed and dangerous.  His criminal history includes assaults, resisting arrest, weapons and drugs. 
 
A federal warrant is valid for conspiracy to distribute / possess crack – cocaine.

During the summer of 2009 Mann took his girlfriends vehicle and cut communications with her.  Then, in January 2010 the victim’s vehicle was recovered in the state of Missouri.  Mann has yet to be located.

 

Mann has a violent criminal history and is a registered sex offender.  It is possible that Mann may be avoiding the Omaha area.  The Fugitive Task Force will extradite Mann back to Nebraska.

 

A felony warrant has been issued for the arrest of Mann for theft by unlawful taking over $1,500

Violation of Probation and Failure to Appear

On Wednesday, October 1, 2009 at 2:51 a.m. officers patrolling in the area of 24th and Vinton Street were advised of a robbery that had occurred nearby.

 

The victims told officers that they were sitting in a vehicle in a parking lot at 21st and Martha Street.  Four Native American males surrounded the vehicle - one of them displaying a firearm.  The suspects demanded money from the victims. The suspects took money, a purse, and vehicle speakers from the victims. 

 

Officers located the property, and all four suspects in a residence nearby.  All four suspects were arrested for robbery.  One of the suspects, Aaron Little, has violated the terms of his probation, and also recently failed to appear for a required court date.

 

A felony warrant has been issued for the arrest of Little for Violation of Probation, and Failure to Appear. 

 

Little was sentenced to two years in jail in 2006 for another robbery.  He has a short criminal history, but has been convicted of robbery, and felony criminal mischief.

Theft - Unlawful Taking Over $1,500

On Wednesday, August 5, 2009 officers began investigating a report of a theft in the 3900 block of North 22nd Street.  The victim told officers that a two-car metal carport on her rental property was missing.

 

The investigation has revealed that Michael Nunn told another party that he would sell him the carport.  Once an agreement was made, Nunn, and two other individuals disassembled the carport, and took it from the residence.  Nunn then sold the carport, even though it was not his property.

 

A felony warrant has been issued for the arrest of Nunn for Theft-Unlawful Taking Over $1,500.   

 

Nunn has a history of traffic offenses, protection order violations, and felony criminal mischief.

Sexual Assault Terroristic Threats

On Sunday, October 4, 2009 officers were flagged down by the victim regarding a sexual assault.  The victim told officers that her ex-husband, Santiago, forced her to have sex with him approximately a week earlier. 

 

The victim told officers that Santiago approached her while she was walking in the area of 24th and Leavenworth.  Santiago pulled the victim by her hair, and held a pair of scissors up to her neck, forcing her to walk to a nearby bridge.  Santiago took the victim under the bridge and sexually assaulted her.  Santiago threatened to kill the victim during the assault. 

 

Santiago attempted to make contact with the victim on another occasion after the assault.  During this confrontation, Santiago threatened to kill the victim and said that he would “take her eyes out”. 

 

A felony warrant has been issued for the arrest of Santiago for Sexual Assault and Terroristic Threats.  Santiago may also go by the names Santiago Lopez, with the date of birth 8-29-74, and Nelson Rivera-Rodriguez with the date of birth 8-29-77.

The investigation revealed that a white Oldsmobile was northbound on 42nd Street, turning west onto Q Street. A red Dodge Ram travelling eastbound ran the red light, striking the Oldsmobile.  After the collision, two occupants of the Dodge Ram ran from the scene.  

The driver of the Oldsmobile was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ramon has been identified as the driver of the Dodge Ram.  A felony warrant has been issued for the arrest of Ramon for Leaving the Scene of Property Damage Accident and Motor Vehicle Homicide.  Ramon has a limited prior criminal history, consisting only of a traffic offense.   

 

A felony warrant has been issued for the arrest of Vicente for Accessory to a Felony.  He has a history of misdemeanor assault, DV assault, and traffic offenses.Flor Campos has already been arrested for Accessory to a Felony in this case for driving Ramon to Kansas City, where he was intending to board a bus bound for Mexico.

Misdemeanor Motor Vehicle Homicide and Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident

At 6:48 p.m. officers responded to a serious injury accident at 37th & Y St.  A green 95 Pontiac Firebird was travelling eastbound on Y St.  A white 96 Ford Contour travelling northbound on 37th St. ran the stop sign at Y St. and struck the Pontiac on the passenger side door.  The force of the collision caused both vehicles to come to rest in the front yard of a house located on the northeast corner of the intersection of 37th & Y St.  The driver and passenger of the Pontiac were transported to Creighton University Medical Center by OFD squad.  The two occupants of the Ford ran north and then eastbound on foot.  At this time, they have not been located.  Speed may have been a factor in the accident.  There were no indications of alcohol use at this time.

 

The passenger of the Pontiac suffered internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

 

The occupants of the white Ford were described as two Hispanic males in their late teens to early twenties.  The driver is believed to be Alvarez-Valle.
